The Pullman Hotel in Huizhou, China, offers an upscale
experience in a city known for its mix of modernity and tradition. Part of the
global Accor Hotels group, Pullman is synonymous with sleek design,
international standards, and a seamless fusion of business and leisure
facilities. Although to be honest with all of you, my experiences with this
brand have been a hit or miss. Located
in a towering structure, this Pullman property doesn’t just dominate the
skyline—it serves as a gateway to Huizhou’s vibrant downtown, its tranquil West
Lake area, and the riverfront bar and dining scene.
The Pullman stands out as part of a sprawling complex that also includes shopping centers, restaurants, and even a Walmart. The hotel shares its neighborhood with another prominent property, the Kempinski, which gives the area an air of affluence and international appeal. Walking into the Pullman, you're greeted with a contemporary aesthetic punctuated by unique design elements, such as the fabric walls and modern artwork that set the tone for a cosmopolitan stay.
One of the hotel's unique features is its amenities delivery
robot, a high-tech convenience that feels like a small glimpse into the future.
It’s details like this that elevate the Pullman experience and cater to
travelers who appreciate modern touches.
Upon entering my room, I was struck by the layout’s
thoughtful separation between the entryway and the main living area, creating a
sense of privacy and coziness. The standout feature was a giant bathtub
positioned for maximum impact, though the semi-private frosted glass left me
feeling it was more suited for solo stays. Still, details like the
complimentary bath salts and aromatic diffusers added a touch of luxury that’s
hard to overlook.
The room’s decor included modern art, functional
furnishings, and clever space-saving designs like a circular workstation that
doubles as a dining table.. However, some quirks, like fabric walls showing
minor wear and tear, detracted slightly from the overall impression. The view from my room on the 57th floor was
truly breathtaking. Overlooking the river and the nearby West Lake area, it was
a constant reminder of Huizhou’s natural beauty and urban growth. This vantage
point alone made the stay feel special.
The Pullman delivers where it matters most: breakfast. The
buffet spread was expansive, catering to both Western and Chinese tastes with
equal flair. Fresh coffee, a mix of hot and cold dishes, and a bright, inviting
dining area set the tone for the day. Dining at the Pullman strikes the right
balance between variety and quality, ensuring that every guest starts their day
satisfied.
Located near some of Huizhou’s best attractions, the Pullman
serves as an ideal base for exploring the city. A short drive takes you to West
Lake, one of the city’s most iconic sites. With its winding paths, ancient
bridges, and serene waters, West Lake offers a peaceful escape and a glimpse
into Huizhou’s historical significance.
The Pullman Huizhou delivers what you’d expect from a
top-tier international hotel chain: comfort, convenience, and a touch of
indulgence, although cleanliness continues to be an issue at this property as
with other Pullman properties I have visited. While the property lacks some of
the individuality and charm of boutique hotels, its location and amenities make
it a strong contender for business and leisure travelers alike.
For me, the highlight of the stay was meeting the local
expatriate community and learning about their experiences in Huizhou. It gave
me a deeper appreciation for the city’s unique blend of old-world charm and
modern vibrancy. This is what makes Huizhou a place worth returning to, and the
Pullman a hotel worth revisiting.
